Abstract: Broadcasting information to users about new resource assignments generates a substantial mapping overhead. The mapping overhead influences the system throughput and, in particular, seriously affects the performance of voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP) services. Persistent scheduling was introduced to reduce the mapping overhead. However, up to now no studies have mathematically analyzed the performance of the persistent scheduling. This paper develops analytical and simulation models and evaluates the performance of the persistent scheduling for VoIP services in mobile WiMAX systems.
