O sistema LSI é um novo produto principal da indústria de semicondutores e também um componente-chave da Tecnologia da Informação (TI). O projeto de um sistema LSI contém duas características diferentes: projeto do sistema e projeto LSI. É importante estabelecer uma metodologia de projeto de sistemas LSIs em que os projetistas tenham muita liberdade em seu projeto, desde o nível do sistema até o nível do dispositivo, e também possam controlar vários parâmetros de projeto para otimizar seu projeto.
